Epson launches RIPS - The Future of Business Printing

March 2015

Replaceable Ink Pack System with 75,000 page yield

SYDNEY, 26 February 2015 – Epson Australia today announced what it is calling "The Future of Business Printing" - WorkForce Pro RIPS - which stands for Replaceable Ink Pack System, an entirely new way for small to medium size businesses to cut costs and improve efficiencies when it comes to office colour printing. Utilising this revolutionary system, Epson's new WorkForce® Pro R5000 series and R8000 series multi-function printers can deliver up to 75,000 printed pages(1) in both black and colour before the ink needs to be replaced. These printing solutions allow customers to print high impact colour documents with ultra-low operating costs and minimal maintenance.

Craig Heckenberg, General Manager - for Epson’s Business Division explained, "RIPS truly revolutionises business printing with its incredible efficiency and benefits to the environment. Epson's unique approach transforms office printing by allowing companies to focus on running their business, not on managing printer supplies. These new models also allow IT managers and business owners to bring extremely affordable colour printing to the office while reducing the hassles normally associated with printer maintenance."

By using RIPS companies looking to reduce their consumable cost per page can save up to 80% when compared to equivalent lasers. In addition, the ultra-low power consumption associated with Epson’s Micro Piezo inkjet technology contributes to further savings of up to 70% in power usage when compared to laser technology.

WorkForce Pro RIPS is a compelling choice for environmentally conscious businesses. Offering the highest page yield in its class, RIPS significantly reduces the need to stock many consumable items and parts. As a result storage, transport and logistics are all kept to a minimum, while eliminating the need to recycle empty cartridges.

The WorkForce Pro WF-R8590TC multifunction printer is Epson's fastest business colour printing solution, featuring print speeds of 24 ISO ppm (black and colour), an 1831-sheet maximum capacity supporting up to A3+ media and includes ink supplies able to deliver up to 75,000 printed pages. The WorkForce Pro WF-R5690 multifunction printer and WF-R5190 printer deliver print speeds up to 20 ISO ppm (black and colour), a 580-sheet capacity and also include ink to print up to 50,0001 pages before requiring replacement.

The new WorkForce Pro RIPS models also feature Epson PrecisionCore™ technology, built-in connectivity features including Ethernet, USB, wireless b/g/n2 and Wi-Fi Direct®2 to easily print from tablets and smartphones2, and include remote printing and access to the cloud.

Additional features include IT tools such as remote setup and custom settings for multiple printers, and support for popular security protocols to protect confidential documents. Replacement ink pack yields are based on testing with IS0/IEC 24712 patterns with Epson's methodology. Yields may vary considerably for reasons that include images printed, print settings, temperature and humidity. Yields may be lower when printing infrequently or predominantly with one ink colour. All ink colours are used for printing and printer maintenance, and all colours have to be installed for printing. For print quality, part of the ink from the included cartridges or ink packs is used for printer start up and a variable amount of ink remains in the cartridges or ink pack after the "replace ink" signal.
