Epson releases two photo scanners with high speed and film scanning capabilities.

Sydney, 22 August 2005: Epson Australia has released two photo scanners with multiple film scanning capabilities.

The Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and Perfection 3590 Photo feature a professional 3200 dpi resolution with a 3.2 Dmax. As with all Epson scanners, these models use superior Matrix CCD technology with micro lens for accurate colour tones and clearer definition when scanning film, negatives and photos.

A bluish lamp used in both the Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and the Epson Perfection 3590 Photo increases scanning speeds, by reducing the amount of time needed to scan negatives and slides. Since the exposure time of blue is much longer than green and red, it becomes the bottleneck for negative film scanning speed. The bluish lamp serves to shorten exposure time for blue and therefore increases the scanning speed for negative scans.

With an easy to use four button operation panel - Start, Copy, Scan to Email and Scan to PDF - functions, the Epson Perfection Photo 3490 Photo and the Perfection 3590 Photo fit seamlessly into the home and small business environments.

With USB 2.0 interface and ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit), the Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and Perfection 3590 Photo are able process and scan at high speeds for increased productivity.

The Epson Perfection 3490 Photo features a compact moving TPU (transparency unit), which is highly suitable for small business and home users requiring higher resolution film scanning at an affordable price without compromising quality.

The moving TPU featured in the Epson Perfection 3490 scanner has been reduced in size, but still has the ability to create uniform scans as the light is directed more evenly onto a smaller diffuser, increasing the available light. The TPU can also scan more film and slides at one time, up to 4 x 35mm stripfilm frames or up to 3 x slide frames at one time.

The Epson Perfection 3590 Photo features an AFL (automatic film loader), which accurately and effortlessly feeds, scans and ejects large volumes of stripfilm for convenient fast and efficient scanning needs.

Epson's bundled software includes Epson Creativity Suite with Colour Restoration function, for restoring faded colour and black and white photos, and Dust Removal function to minimise dust from film and negatives, in addition to Epson Scan, ArcSoft Photo Impression(TM) 5, ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint and NewSoft Presto! BizCard 4 LE.

The Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner is $299 RRP including GST and the Epson Perfection 3590 Photo scanner is $349 RRP including GST and both are available from Epson retailers.
