Digital Ice Technology—Precision fault detection and correction
One of the enormous strengths of the Epson Perfection V500 Photo Photo in scanning films and slides is the inclusion of Digital ICE (Image Correction and Enhancement) and Digital ICE Lite technologies. By taking full advantage of the Epson Perfection V500 Photo's advanced scanning technologies, Digital ICE utilising both the hardware and software technologies accurately detects and removes dust and even scratch marks from colour film and slide scans.
Based on advanced software (embedded in the scanner's firmware) and the Epson Perfection V500 Photo's scanning lamp, Digital ICE uses information from the scanner's four–channel lamp (one channel each for red, green and blue, and another for fault detection) to identify the location of dust and scratches, then employs specially designed software algorithms to remove detected faults from the final image.
