Epson releases the Perfection 4490 Photo scanner with 4800 dpi and moving TPU

August 2005

Sydney, 4 August 2005: Epson Australia has released the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner for advanced amateur and professional photographers requiring high speed, high quality photo scanning.

The Epson Perfection 4490 Photo features high quality 4800dpi resolution using MatrixCCD (charge coupled device) with micro-lens technology producing higher colour consistency. With a 3.4 DMax optical density and moving carriage TPU (transparency unit) the Perfection 4490 Photo creates clear and beautiful scans of photos, film, slides and negatives. The moving TPU carriage also enhances scanning speed and creates uniform scans by dispersing light more evenly when scanning.

Scan speed is also amplified by the high speed PC centric ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) which processes data at a higher speed than previous models, a high speed USB 2.0 port, which not only increases the rate of data transmission, but also assists in flexible connectivity, and the use of a bluish lamp for negative scanning, as blue images take significantly longer than red or green to capture, for a shorter negative scanning exposure period.

The Perfection 4490 Photo comes with Digital ICE(TM) and DIGITAL ICE Lite(TM) technology, the first for this price range, which easily removes dust and scratch marks from colour film and slides without softening, blurring or altering any details in the image, using an infra-red LED to collect the defect information.

Featuring Epson's Creativity Suite, which includes easy to use scanning applications with Epson File-Manager for viewing thumbnails to categorise and edit images. Users can also scan up to 99 images in a single scan, scan in draft mode for high speed scanning and produce sharper images through improvements to Unsharp Mask parameters.

Other bundled software with the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, Presto BizCard 4 and ABBYY FineReader Sprint 6 (Windows)/Sprint 5 (Mac).

The optional Automatic Document Feeder, with a 30 sheet capacity, is ideal for high resolution document scanning. Pages can be automatically fed, scanned at up to 3 ppm (pages per minute) and then ejected for increased flexibility.

Also featuring an improved driver with new draft mode for scanning film or reflective in professional mode for faster scanning, easy to use four button operation and a reduction of film holders for easier storage, the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo is designed for professional and amateur photographers requiring a high quality scanner at a lower price point.

The Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner is $599 RRP including GST and is available from Epson retailers.
