Epson Stylus Photo R2880 New Product Release

June 2008

Epson Stylus(TM) Photo R2880 featuring Epson UltraChrome K3 ink with Vivid Magenta

Sydney 18 June 2008: The new Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3+ printer is designed for semi professional and professional photographers who demand high quality colour and black and white photographic prints.

Taverner Research (Aust) has shown that more than 86% of Australian professional photographers who have an A3/A3+ printer use Epson. The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 replaces the popular Epson Stylus Photo R2400 in Epson’s photographic printer range.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 features Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta, an eight individual ink cartridge system including cyan, light cyan, vivid magenta, light vivid magenta, yellow, light light black, light black and an interchangeable matte black and photo black.

Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta has built upon the success of Epson UltraChrome K3 by expanding the colour gamut for highly accurate colour reproduction with more vivid blues and purples and smoother tonal gradation in photographs and fine art prints. Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta reproduces high print quality with excellent short and long term colour stability, and virtually no metameric effects.

The three shades of black eliminate colour twists and casts and offer a richer range of tonal expression for black and white photographic reproduction and superior neutral grey tones, creating professional quality photographic prints. The inclusion of light light black and light black also allows for exceptionally smooth gradation and incredibly detailed shadows and highlights. And a high D-max insures blacker blacks are achieved, particularly on glossy media.

Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta is a resin coated pigment ink which boasts exceptional lightfastness, water and smudge resistance. When this ink was tested using the Epson 880 series printers by Wilhem Imaging; a leading authority on print permanence it was found to last up to 108 years in colour and more than 200 years in black and white prints (tests using the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 are in progress)^.

A new advanced Micro Piezo print head optimised for Epson UltraChrome K3 ink with Vivid Magenta gives one inch coverage with each pass. The wider print head allows the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 to print fast while delivering superior image quality. In addition Epson’s printers use Variable Sized Droplet Technology which has the ability to vary with accuracy the size of the ink droplets. Maximum sized ink droplets are used in areas of solid colour which aids in fast print speeds. In contrast, for print areas where there are subtle tonal gradations and fine detail, the technology delivers ink droplets as small as 3 picolitres.

Look Up Table (LUT) technology is used to determine the best combination of inks to ensure superior inkjet colour reproduction. Epson’s new LUT technology optimises colour gradation, minimises grain and ensures image constancy so that prints look the same under various types of light (reduced metamerism).

The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 supports a wide selection of A3+ media up to 1.3mm thick including glossy, matte and fine art papers. In addition it offers roll paper support which provides photographers with the ability to produce stunning, border free panoramic prints. The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 prints directly to CDs and DVDs for complete customisation.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 has dual USB ports for connection to a second PC or Mac without the typical disconnect/reconnect hassle that is part for the course for a single USB port printer.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 joins Epson’s other A3+ printers including the Epson Stylus Photo R1900 which features Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss2 ink for superior colour photographs and the Epson Stylus Photo 1410 which features Claria Photographic ink for ultra high definition dye prints for the advanced amateur. Epson thereby offers a choice of printers to meet every photographer’s printing need.

The RRP of the Epson Stylus R2880 is $1499 including GST and it is available for purchase at consumer electronics retailers, computer superstores, office superstores and selected photo specialty stores.
