Epson WorkForce ® scanners target high volume, accurate, unattended continuous

October 2012

Sydney, 9 October 2012: Epson has released two affordable business duplex scanners targeted at medium to large enterprises in government, the public service, medical, education, and finance sectors that use or are moving to high volume, accurate, unattended continuous scanning in a seamless integrated online document environment.

The Epson WorkForce DS-7500 (A4) and Epson WorkForce DS-70000 (A3) support media that many sheet fed scanners cannot handle such as ID cards, credit cards, passports, newspapers, and bound documents such as contracts, magazines, books, and catalogues.

With fast scan speeds — WorkForce DS-7500 (A4): 40ppm (Simplex)/80ipm (Duplex), WorkForce DS-70000 (A3 wide): 70ppm (Simplex)/140ipm (Duplex) — fast transfer speeds and ultrasonic double feed detection to minimise page errors, these Epson scanners accelerate automated paper capture and deliver significant productivity gains.

“Implementing document capture processes within an organisation offers IT and Administration Managers one of the shortest payback periods and at the same time allows companies to take advantage of streamlined workflows and improved business processes, while saving money on physical storage space and associated support and maintenance costs,” said Mike Pleasants, Director of Marketing Communications for Epson Australia.

“You save money with simple and easy scanner sharing within a department via networking, you benefit from the powerful document imaging solution and Cloud services capability of Epson Document Capture Pro solutions at no extra-cost, and you save on energy consumption with Epson’s ReadyScan LED technology.”

Epson's Document Capture Pro client and server software on both the WorkForce DS-7500 and DS-70000 offers a unique software package at no extra cost and is compatible with all common document management systems and Cloud storage repositories. It seamlessly integrates complex and multiple systems into one single, manageable entity through a single server installation or onto users’ computers.

Designed to make it easy for any employee to turn paper documents into electronic files quickly, easily and affordably, Document Capture Pro is an easy-to-use system with pre-defined workflow optimisation processes that minimise training requirements, and offers sustained image quality with advanced document imaging features.

For multi-document large volume scanning, Document Capture Pro can separate and send files to different destinations using interleaved barcode pages, blank page or OCR.

Document Capture Pro Server allows employees to send digitised paper documents to workflow processes in a variety of formats from the control panel of supported models. Networked scanners are easily managed via any web browser.

The Network Interface Panel, an optional panel required to run Document Capture Pro Server on the WorkForce DS-7500 and DS-70000, enables compatible scanners to be shared easily amongst a workgroup and offers push scan features to increase productivity. Users can select directly from the panel ‘scan to’ job command such as ‘scan to email’ or ‘scan to Microsoft SharePoint®', that is pre-configured on Document Capture Pro, including scan to Cloud services such as Evernote and Google Drive (Windows OS only).

A key feature of the WorkForce DS-7500 and DS-70000 is support for media that many other sheet fed scanners cannot handle such as ID cards, credit cards, passports, newspapers, and bound documents such as contracts, magazines, books, and catalogues. The “Book Spine Correction” feature corrects shadows and curvatures when scanning bound documents (Windows only). The DS-70000 has a 200 page automatic document feeder (100 page on the DS-7500).

Two CCD sensors scan both sides of a document in a single pass, enabling fast double-sided scanning without having to turn over each document, and the ultrasonic double-feed detection system prevents two documents being accidentally fed at the same time.

The bundled software includes Epson Scan, Epson Event Manager for iOS systems and ABBYY FineReader® Sprint 9 for Windows and Sprint 8 for iOS. The OCR software supports up to 179 languages and allows users to transform scanned paper documents into editable files and is compliant with Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows 8.

Other Epson Scan features include Colour Enhance and Colour Dropout, Auto Document Size Detection, Text Enhancement, Correct Document Skew, High compression, Encrypted and Searchable PDF and Punch Hole removal.

To reduce power consumption and produce a start up time of around 1 second the WorkForce DS-7500 and DS-70000 use Epson ReadyScan LED technology which, unlike CCFL light sources, has no mercury in its LED light source. With Epson ReadyScan LED technology, less heat is dissipated over the same duration of time, minimising physical stress on the system caused by heat build up which results in better light uniformity and delivers a 40% power consumption saving .

Both scanners come with a 12 month on-site rapid exchange warranty and customers will also be able to purchase an extended warranty up to 3 years in total. Distributed in Australia by selected distributors and resellers, the Epson WorkForce DS-7500 and DS-70000 are available now.
