Epson high performance MFPs at the epicentre of home and small business market shakeout

November 2002

Sydney, 2002 - Epson Australia Limited today set new standards in the rapidly growing MFP market with the release of the Epson STYLUS CX3100 and Epson STYLUS CX5100, two high performance multifunction products that combine ultra high resolution border-free printing and copying with fast output.

Aimed at the busy home, SOHO and small business environment, the Epson STYLUS CX3100 and Epson STYLUS CX5100 use the latest Epson inkjet Resolution Print Management(TM) [RPM] technology to deliver six different ink droplet sizes as small as three picolitres at resolutions as high as 5760 x 1440 optimised dpi [5760 x 720 optimised dpi for the CX3100] for sharper text, finer detail and brighter colours in border-free colour and mono prints and copies.

"The busy home office and small business owner wants the optimum combination of features and price. The CX5100 and CX3100 provide the best overall performance and value in their price categories," Epson's Director of Marketing Communications, Mike Pleasants, said.

"The CX5100 cleverly exploits Epson's world leadership in digital imaging and colour printing technologies to create a powerful, versatile and compact all-in-one unit that meets total printing (colour and monochrome), scanning and copying needs in the small business environment," Mr Pleasants said.

The Epson STYLUS C5100 engine is Epson's fastest four-color desktop inkjet printer with a new high-speed micropiezo print head that delivers up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 11 ppm in colour.

Combined with Epson's revolutionary DURABrite INK in four individual ink cartridges the Epson STYLUS CX5100 produces water resistant prints and copies that have colour fastness for up to 80 years.

The STYLUS CX3100 and STYLUS CX5100 feature a stand-alone colour copier and a full-function scanner. The STYLUS CX3100 built-in scanner achieves 48-bit colour depth (internal) at an optical resolution of 600 x 1200dpi and the STYLUS CX5100 scanner achieves 48-bit colour depth (internal) scanning at an optical resolution of 1200 x 2400dpi., both with full A4-size (216 x 297 mm) size capability.

The scanners are managed by Epson's SmartPanel(TM) software that enables users to quickly digitise photos, text or graphics with outstanding detail and colour and deliver them directly to the Internet, email software, a faxing program, or direct to print.

The built-in copiers have features equal to most photocopy machines and can produce high-resolution colour copies or black text copies as fast as 15 cpm (copies per minute)[CX5100] or 10 cpm (copies per minute[CX3100] without the need to turn on any computer.

"The Epson STYLUS CX3100 is an ideal and inexpensive, compact and easy to use all-in-one scanner, printer and colour copier for the home professional and home office," said Mike Pleasants, Director of Marketing Communications & E-Commerce, Epson Australia.

The STYLUS CX3100 uses the same unique and highly advanced Resolution Performance Management technology as the CX5100 to print at resolutions as high as 5,760 x 720 optimised dpi and at up to 14 pages per minute (ppm) of black output and up to 10 ppm in colour.

The STYLUS CX3100 is available from Epson resellers at $399 including GST, while the STYLUS CX5100 is $599 including GST.
