Epson Stylus Photo R2400 A3+ inkjet printer with new UltraChrome K3 Ink

Sydney, 23 June 2005: Epson Australia has released the new Stylus Photo R2400 A3+ photo printer. The Stylus Photo R2400 uses Epson's innovative eight colour UltraChrome K3 Ink technology and incorporates a range of advanced software solutions to deliver picture perfect quality images for the fine art enthusiast and professional photographer.

With Epson's new UltraChrome K3 Ink technology, the latest generation of the very successful UltraChrome ink set first released in 2003, the Stylus Photo R2400 produces outstanding black and white and colour photos.

UltraChrome K3 set includes Light Light Black (LLK), along with Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Light Black and either Matte Black or Photo Black, increasing the already large gamut of UltraChrome ink and makes shadow and colour gradation from light to dark areas much smoother giving greater detail in between.

The new UltraChrome K3 ink features innovations aimed at pleasing the serious digital photographer. Metamerism is reduced meaning that colours on a print vary less under different lighting conditions and once printed UltraChrome K3 ink will stabilise colours in just 30 minutes so there is far less colour shift once the print dries. A new resin formula in the UltraChrome K3 ink reduces gloss differential on prints giving a smoother, glossier finish on most media and provides greater scratch resistance. The addition of Light Light Black (LLK) produces a better colour profile on black, finer gradation in dark areas and reduces the amount of colour ink used in a print.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2400 supports a wide variety of Epson photographic paper and fine art papers up to A3 size including roll paper. An improved paper feed system with a straighter path allows for thicker art quality paper such as velvet fine art paper, ultra-smooth fine art paper and water colour paper, to feed through easily, something that many other printers have trouble with. Alternatively, the Stylus Photo R2400 has a front in front out paper feed that supports paper up to 1.2 mm thick.

True borderless printing means the Stylus Photo R2400 can create gallery quality prints, borderless on all four sides, on all supported media.

The Stylus Photo R2400's new 1-inch wide print head prints quality images quickly - A4 Premium Glossy Photo Paper takes just 73 seconds at 1440 x 720dpi, improved from the Stylus Photo 2100's 126 seconds. At highest quality the Stylus Photo R2400 can provide an amazing 5760 x 1440dpi resolution. Epson's Micro-Piezo technology imbedded in the print head allows the ink droplet size to be variable up to 3.5pl in size.

The Stylus Photo R2400 comes with an abundance of software solutions. Two new print workflow modes, Epson RAW Print and Epson Creativity Suite, allow greater control over the parameters to ensure that all the details captured by the digital camera are reproduced on the print.

New enhanced printing modes can be used for both colour and black and white. The monochrome print solution in black and white offers the highest quality prints by automatically optimising the black and white quality of UltraChrome K3 ink to create glossier blacks and greater gradation detail in dark areas.

Epson RAW Print allows major DSLR users to print quickly and simply using the RAW image file from their camera. A simple menu helps select images and print straight away without changing the file format - the Stylus Photo R2400 uses integrated processing in the RGB colour space for the RAW data to print so as not to loose any image quality.

Epson Creativity Suite software emulates the simple processes of the darkroom for digital printing making it easy to process and print high quality photos in just a few steps without having to know the complexities of Photoshop.

The colour modes cater for all levels of colour management competency. The Adobe RGB colour mode is great for DSLR or DSC users who prefer to shoot and edit using the Adobe RGB colour space. ICC profiles allow Windows and Macintosh users to go into great depth in getting accurate colour recreation on the print after retouching or enhancing the image on screen. Highly experienced users can combine ICC and RGB profiles to bring out the finest details and most accurate colour recreation in the prints.

Epson's new Auto Photo Enhance Mode is for users not familiar with the more complicated modes. The Photo Enhance software automatically retouches and enhances images and then prints them using a custom optimised ink gamut.

Photo Enhance uses an automatic scene detection program which recognises the image as either a landscape or portrait and adjusts it appropriately. For a landscape the contrast is set harder and the colour saturated, making the sky clearer and correcting the greens; for a portrait it makes the image softer and brighter and also corrects skin colour.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2400 is equipped with a high speed USB 2.0 connection and firewire ports.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2400 RRP is $1799 and is available through Epson retailers.
