Epson HD home theatre projectors with world’s first Mega contrast ratio

Sydney 8 September 2010: Epson, the world market leader in projectors, has launched two new superior performance high definition projectors for home theatre enthusiasts, including the world’s first Mega contrast projector, that reproduce incredibly colour-rich images with blacks as deep as the film director envisioned.

“Epson’s core objective is to provide the highest possible image quality in its projectors, and the technological innovations in the EH-R4000 and EH-R2000 really do take the home theatre experience to a completely new level,” said Bruce Bealby, Visual Imaging Business Unit Manager for Epson Australia.

“Our first home cinema projector in 2002 had a contrast ratio of 600:1. Five years later in 2007 Epson launched the C2Fine panel and DeepBlack technology that achieved a 4,000:1 native contrast. Less than three years later we have achieved a 10 times higher native contrast and the world’s first dynamic contrast of 1,000,000:1 with Epson’s new reflective high-temperature polysilicon ("reflective HTPS") TFT liquid crystal panels,” Bruce said.

“And Epson’s drive for innovation does not stop here. We regard native contrast as one of the most important factors in creating the best possible image from a home cinema projector, and will be pursuing further improvements in contrast.”

Epson’s new reflective high-temperature polysilicon ("reflective HTPS") TFT liquid crystal panels (see separate release) produce an incredibly high native contrast in projectors: 40,000:1 in the EH-R4000; and 25:000:1 in the EH-R2000.

Combined with Epson’s DeepBlack™ and auto iris technology the 3LCDR panels produce a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 in the EH-R4000 and 500,000:1 in the EH-R2000.

Both projectors have Epson’s improved Cinema Filter, and the latest HQV® Vida™ video processing chip which takes Integrated Device Technology, Inc’s industry-leading Hollywood Quality Video processing technology to a new level of performance, enhancing image detail and quality with four-field motion adaptive de-interlacing, multi cadence tracking, expanded 12-bit colour processing and detail enhancement.

The new reflective LCD panels also have an aperture ratio about 40% higher than current transmissive LCD panels, giving an incredibly smooth texture to images and, combined with the improved auto-iris, allowing an approximate 75% faster response that delivers crisp and sharp images without blur, even in fast moving scenes.

The projectors are ISF Certified and also have custom colour setting functions to ensure precise colour and brightness levels suited to individual preferences or viewing conditions, including six-axis colour adjustment, custom gamma adjustment colour isolation, and preset colour spaces.

They have easy to install and operate features, including a 2.1x optical power zoom/focus lens and a best-in-class lens shift function (85% vertical, 40%horizontal) which can be controlled from the remote. Combined with its small size and footprint, plus stylish design and optional cable cover, the EH-4000R and EH-2000R can be easily integrated into any home theatre set-up.
