The Epson EPL-5500W is a compact laser printer designed for Windows and Windows 95 users. Designed to the official Microsoft Windows Printing System (WPS), the EPL-5500W features greater compatibility and better performance under Windows 95 and Windows 3.1x.

The WPS system (known as Sleek) is the superior successor to the PDL technology that was designed around the DOS platform, and is faster than current GDI printers. WPS treats all components of a page, including text, as a graphical object for true WYSIWYG printing, and through clever design, maximises the capabilities of high speed printer ports.
