Epson wins seven iF 2009 design awards

Auckland, 23rd January 2009: Epson has been awarded seven prestigious iF design awards for products that include home and office photo printers, a large format printer, and a short throw projector, from a total of 2,808 products submitted from 39 different countries for the 2009 awards judging in Hannover, Germany.

The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 large format printer, Epson EMP-400W short throw projector, Epson Stylus Office T40W printer, Epson Stylus Office TX600FW multifunction printer, Epson Stylus Photo TX700W multifunction printer, the Epson Stylus Photo TX800FW multifunction printer, and the Epson TM-S1000 high-accuracy cheque and coupon scanner, have all been recognised in this year's awards which highlight Epson's continued investment in product design and innovation.

Epson products won four iF awards in the 2008 competition.

The International Forum Design (iF) evaluates products against a number of criteria including design quality, workmanship, innovativeness, environmental compatibility, ergonomics, choice of material, universal design appeal and functionality. As an independent institution it has been rewarding design in industry, as well as providing a window on the latest design developments and trends, for more than 50 years.

While Epson products have always been renowned for their technical excellence, reliability and high quality performance, it is pleasing to again be recognised internationally for industrial and commercial design excellence.

Epson's 2009 award winning products are:

The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 is a revolutionary high quality 64 inch large format printer that features an eight colour solvent type ink set developed by Epson. The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 enables operators to switch easily between a range of different coated and non-coated substrates such as vinyl, making it an ideal, flexible production solution for outdoor and indoor commercial applications.

Integral to the quality and durability of print output is the new Epson UltraChrome GS, an 8-colour solvent type ink set (C,M,Y,K,LC,LM,+ O,G) available in efficient 950 ml cartridges. It has an exceptionally wide colour palette which provides enhanced support for commonly used spot colours, making the Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 ideal for branded applications. Importantly for the environment and operators, Epson UltraChrome GS ink doesn't spread harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and is the first major solvent type ink set to be launched without the need for a hazard symbol.

The Epson EMP-400W is an ultra-short throw, compact and light-weight projector ideal for classrooms and corporate presentations, especially within small meeting areas. The projector is able to deliver a clear and sharp focussed 60 inch picture at just 65cm from the projection surface, eliminating shadow effects that can be caused by presenters standing between the projection unit and the screen.

Incorporating Epson's innovative 3LCD technology, the Epson EMP-400W provides brighter images, more accurate colour reproduction and finer grey scaling. As such, the Epson EMP-400W is ideal for use within the office or educational environment and provides an ideal presentation display tool.

The Epson Stylus Office T40W is a compact, WiFi equipped, high-speed desktop inkjet printer which delivers impressive print speeds without compromising on quality. Offering the convenience of fast colour prints in a smartly presented design, the Epson Stylus Office T40W is the ideal choice for desktop printing in small offices and offers outstanding productivity thanks to a print speed of up to 38 pages per minute. Utilising Epson DURABrite Ultra individual inks the Epson Stylus Office T40W offers a high yield and low running costs. Valuable flexibility in the small office is provided where the built-in wireless networking and Ethernet connectivity makes sharing amongst multiple users quick and simple.

The Epson Stylus Office TX600FW is the perfect WiFi and fax equipped multi-function printer for the small office. Using Epson's Micro Piezo print head technology in a new high-speed print engine, it offers impressive printing speeds. Integrated Wi-Fi enables wireless printing and scanning for all the family. With individual Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink cartridges the Epson Stylus Office TX600FW provides high-quality documents and lab-quality photos that are water, smudge and fade resistant. The Epson Stylus TX600FW comes with a 2.5" LCD screen which can be used to view and print photos, send faxes and make quick copies, among other PC-free functions.

The Epson Stylus Photo TX700W combines exceptional functionality with Epson's renowned quality to produce the perfect home printer for budding photographers or experienced D-SLR users. Featuring an iconic design with clean lines and gloss black finish the Epson Stylus Photo TX700W will integrate seamlessly into any living environment. Featuring individual Claria Photographic Ink and built-in Wi-Fi, users can produce superb borderless (up to A4), better than lab-quality photos from anywhere in the home.

The Epson Stylus Photo TX800FW is a 4-in-1 printer, fax, copier and scanner with integrated Wi-Fi, offering the best of both worlds for the office and photo printing. Its Italian styled good looks conceal advanced functionality which is accessed and controlled via an impressive 7.8 inch touch panel interface. Ideal for numerous office applications, users can also expect photographic prints that will exceed lab print quality using Epson's individual Claria Photographic Ink. Designed to seamlessly integrate into any living space or work environment, the Epson Stylus Photo TX800FW comes with a black gloss finish, giving it a modern look. Its carefully considered contours hide an automatic document feeder while the twin paper trays are fully integrated adding to its overall sleek design that blends with the aesthetic of your home or office.

The Epson TM-S1000 is a highly reliable, high-accuracy cheque and coupon scanner and is part of Epson's extensive Point of Sale and back office peripheral range. Utilising unique MICR algorithms and binary image processing, the device is one of the most accurate on the market in terms of MICR. Its compact design, accuracy and ease of maintenance and operation makes the TM-S1000 ideal for use in small retail offices, SOHO businesses for remote deposit capture (RDC) and by bank tellers for back office capture (BOC). The TM-S1000 enables retailers to scan, capture and deposit cheques directly to their bank account from their corporate premises, making interaction between banks and depositing customers more efficient.

Epson Stylus R1900 wins ‘Best Expert Photo Printer in Europe 2008’ : TIPA Awards, 2008

23 April, 2008 – Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Awards Epson’s Stylus R1900 professional A3 photo printer ‘Best Expert Photo Printer in Europe 2008’.

Epson was awarded the accolade of ‘Best Expert Photo Printer’ for the second consecutive year and TIPA judges highlighted a number of key features that separate the winning Epson Stylus Photo R1900 from its competition. These include the printer’s seven separate colours, its capability to produce prints up to 13 inches wide on a broad variety of media types from gloss papers to a range of fine art textured media and the 1440 nozzle print head that enables a print resolution of 5760x1440 dpi.

TIPA judges went on to comment: “Epson's new UltraChrome™ Hi-Gloss 2 ink system gives a wider colour gamut for natural skin tones in portrait subjects, and the smooth gloss finish with the extra gloss optimizer ink renders a superb look and feel to prints. The additional red and orange inks contribute to improved colour vibrancy.”

Epston Stylus Pro 11880 wins 'Best Large Format Printer in Europe 2008’ : TIPA Awards, 2008

23 April, 2008 – Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) name the Stylus Pro 11880, ‘Best Large Format Printer in Europe 2008’.

TIPA currently has 31 member magazines from twelve countries, making it the largest and most influential photo and imaging press association in Europe. Once a year the highly regarded industry experts of the TIPA panel meet to vote for the best digital imaging products in Europe. The two accolades follow a tradition of success for Epson at the annual TIPA awards.

Epson’s continued investment in large-format printer technology was rewarded with the ‘Best Large Format Printer’ award for the Epson Stylus Pro 11880. TIPA judges commented: “The Epson Stylus Pro 11880 is a professional printer developed for large format applications including fine-art printing, photography and proofing. The Epson Ultrachrome™ K3 Vivid Magenta Ink Technology offers two new magenta inks ensuring a more precise colour reproduction – especially in difficult-to-match red and blue areas of the colour spectrum.” Judges also recognised the benefits offered by Epson's Micro Piezo Thin-Film print head, which ejects approximately 40,000 droplets of ink per second to enable high-speed, high-resolution printing.

About TIPA
TIPA's main aim shall be to act as a forum for its members, and for the Photo-Video industries of the world who may have an interest in European matters. Such forums may take the form of meetings, conferences, the distribution of informative literature and others.

TIPA's secondary purpose is both to recognise, with one voice, excellence of product, and to inform Europe's consumers in an unbiased fashion. Every year, TIPA members will vote the best products in Europe in several categories.

'No Limits' Inkjet Printing : Epson's Extended Range of Media: Better Photography, Autumn 2006

Photographers in the past were limited to a narrow range of photographic papers - gloss, matte and, if you were lucky, semi-gloss, semi-matte and maybe a stipple. They had little choice over the palette of colours or the image’s contrast and it was generally left up to someone they didn’t know in a lab to decide how light or dark the print would be.
